Marina Bay from the water's edge at dusk, then dinner at the nearest hawker centre, and pictures of how hawker food looked fifty years ago.

Walk the bay anticlockwise: along the promenade, over the Helix Bridge, past the grandstand, and back along the river side as the lights come on.

Then eat. Lau Pa Sat is the nearest food centre, in a cast-iron market hall from the 1890s, and closes a side street for satay stalls in the evening; point at what looks good and find a table.

Economic rice is the easiest place to start: a long counter of dishes, rice underneath, and you choose two or three. Prices are on a board, or ask.
