Kampong Glam & Little India
Gold domes and textile shops in Kampong Glam, the painted lanes beside them, and Serangoon Road's temples and market a short walk north.
Walk from Bugis to the Sultan Mosque, whose gold domes close the end of Bussorah Street. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times; cover shoulders and knees, and robes are lent at the door if you need one.
Arab Street still sells cloth, carpets and rattan. Haji Lane, one block over, is narrow, painted and busy with small shops by the afternoon; the murals photograph best in the morning, before the crowds and the hard shadows.
Cross Rochor Road and follow the side streets north to Serangoon Road. Tekka Centre is a wet market with a food centre around it, and the place to stop for biryani or a dosa.
Finish further up Serangoon Road at the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, its tower crowded with painted figures. Shoes come off at the entrance; Little India MRT is back past Tekka.
